water pump running often

I have a 28 Regal cabin cruiser, I just changed the water pump because it had a leak. The pump is cycling on and off every 30 seconds, so I checked all the water hose fittings and no leaks and connections are all tight. O.k. now, I went into the engine room and turned off the water to the hot water heater and the pump stopped running. All the hot water lines are o.k. and not leaking. Could it be a bad pressure valve?

Welcome to the forums. It may be more of a pressure switch problem than a valve. Can your switch be adjusted or replaced?

Just to be clear you are talking about the domestic water pump and not an engine or bilge pump.

If turning off the hot water circuit stopped the cycling it sounds like a leak somewhere. Do you heat the water via the engines? A leak in that look can be difficult to spot.

Something is causing the system to lose pressure. Is there a leaking check valve that's allowing pressure to dissipate near the water heater?
