Navigation app and reading charts

Iím looking for a free, easy-to-use navigation app. Simple navigation routes, hazard warnings.

could also use some simple videos on how to read paper-based navigation charts.

sticking to the Trent-Severn.

thanks

I have never found a free nautical or aviation navigation app so I use paid services. I think it's because of the critical nature of navigation and the requirement for documented navigation sources and routine updates. The best thing I've found is the NOAA website and their charts.

As for how to read charts there is a lot of information out there already; books, textbooks, websites and videos. You can also get most of what you need by just reading the chart. Almost all the information you need is on the charts themselves.

Hereís a section of a chart. I donít see a legend anywhere

what are:
- the red lines
- dotted red lines
- the red arrow-like icons (round at one end, pointed at the other) and why are they pointed in different directions?

are nautical charts produced around the world similar? Or do I need to Find Canadian resources?
