Question

I just picked up a small 12ft aluminum boat with an old Johnson outboard motor model 4W71D for a decent price from a trusted coworker. Perfect for me and my two small boys on an inland lake.

I need to get the motor operational to see if it works alright. Can anyone tell me what I have in that 4W71D? Is it a relic? Who can tell me what the proper oil to gas ratio is with that engine? Also, any tips with minor servicing of that engine?

On the boat...I wish to clean and paint the inside bottom of it. Can anyone suggest a good, tough paint that could stand up to water and the wear and tear? Thanks in advance.

That model number does not sound familiar.
Lets try this, how many spark plugs does it have,
what color is it?
It will use tcw3 50/1 oil in the gas and hypiod 90w
in the lower unit. if it has not been run in a couple
of years, you should replace the water pump impeller.
It may have breaker style ignition, but we can deal with that later.
I like the nonskid style paints the go on quick and
have a silencing effect.

I had the non skid RHINO LINER spraayed in bottom inside of my duck huntin boat, made it quiter and will not bust your a$$ when its wet, it cost me $150 plus i traded small piece of carpet for his boat floor.
