Question

Just bought '73 25 HP Evinured outboard motor. Took boat for spin and when returned to garage I changed the lower unit oil. When inspecting the lower unit oil - it was a white/carmel color. Owners manual indicates that this color means water is entering lower unit. How does this happen and what needs to be looked at for repairs.

Hello
Over time and running the motor a little oil can get by the "O" rings from the water pump. the water pump has high water pressure and if the motor is not used the o-rings can dry out, they can seal up and not leak after you run the moter ..some times....you should check before using and check after using to see if it is leaking every time or just the first time or two.......keep changeing the water in oil to fresh oil...if this happen more that one or two time you need to change all the o-rings......Good Luck
