89 90hp johnson

Hello, trying to get my 17ft lund running good--or I am gonna sell it! '89 90 hp johnson VRO v-4, Normally gets 40mph and planes out real easy. Lately, been hard starting and only getting 30mph, and hard to get on plane. I put in new fuel lines, connector, filter, and plugs. Still the same! Any ideas on further trouble shooting without going into "swapping parts mode".

Ouch, thats going to hurt.
Scuffed pistons can be expensive to replace.
It may require boring or sleeving the cylinder.
Be sure to replace the VRO. there have been many
factory updates. Check with an OMC dealer.
A rough estimate... 1500$

Pulled the head and the cylinder is toast--there are no rings left and the piston has been flopping around in there for quite some time! 1,500--2,200 to rebuild--I am selling the boat as is and cutting my looses before I put more into it than it is worth.
