can't get any spark onI/O merc
I have a 1983 4 cyl. 140 HP G.M. I/O Mercruiser and have replaced the points, rotor, coil and condenser and still can not get any spark what so ever. It turns over but that's it. Am I missing something???

There is a shift assist switch that shorts out the ignition
when you come out of gear to unload the clutch dog.
When the shift cable becomes stiff with age or water
contamination this switch will remain engaged.
It is located on the shift actuator mounted on the engine.
Follow the cables from the helm and you will find it.
Remove the outdrive shift cable, let the switch cam
reposition itself and you should again have spark.
