- HVAC contractor for 30+ years, retiring in 1996. Registered Engineer for 41 years, still consulting. Specialize in
designing and troubleshooting residential HVAC. I did Contracting and Engineering concurrently for 17 years
before realizing my time was more enjoyably spent solving HVAC problems than worrying about who was
showing up for work that day, and dealing with other personnel issues (I even had to counsel one tech to bathe regularly).
I routinely help homeowners all over the USA with HVAC problems based on info and images they provide,
thereby "seeing" their installations without being onsite. I've been doing that for more than a decade.
I've always tried to identify and fix the problem, rather than the symptom.
There are many skilled and knowledgeable contractors, installers and techs out there - My comments here don't reflect on them and may their tribe increase.
When you think about it, problems posted here are about the "Other Tribe" - Those undertrained or improperly trained types who appear to outnumber the "Good Guys" - May their tribe quickly change their ways or become extinct.
