gocart problem Help!!!!!

Hi I an 14 and I have an old gocart.I am haveing a problem with the engine, and old briggs and stratton 5 hp. When I start it it goes as fast as it can and wont stop! help

your throttle linkage is messed up, i had the same problem with mine when i had it.

Or...the carburetor is varnished up and won't allow for free movement of the throttle shaft. Or...if speeddriven is right, you'd better get a Briggs manual to refer to as governor/throttle linkage/spring arrangements are confusing. The book will help you through it.

yeah I might have messed something up when i took it all apart and cleaned it.

I looked at the manual and it did not explain how to do it. Oh and right now i do not have a spring on the governer. If i have it on it goes as fast as it can.

jonnyd, take a look at the thread entitled "Go-Cart Briggs 5hp throttle problem" in this forum. That guy has the same problem, I believe, that you have. That thread should help you out.
