1985 Honda Spree

This is my sister's moped. It only has 200 miles on it. It runs with your thumb over the intake on the carburator and will only go about 50 feet, then die. It's getting fuel and spark. Smokes kinda blue, but like it should; maybe a little heavy. Any suggestions? TIA!

Considering the age of the Spree and the fact it only has a couple hundred miles on it, I would assume it spent a good part of its life just sitting. With that, the first things I would look for is any dried or cracked rubber, such as were the carb attaches to the engine. Other possibilities might be a gummed up and restricted carb. The engine is going to try and draw whatever it can from the carb, but blocking off the intake it still needs to draw from somewhere and it might be pulling fuel from the carb through the restricted jets. These are a 2 cycle engine which burns oil when running, so some blue smoke is to be expected.
