1985 honda goldwing

need help finding out how to remove starter please!!can hear a clicking sound on fuse block batterie is hot. when pushing starter button the lights all go out also.

andy jackson, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Bad news. You cannot remove the starter without removing the engine. The starter drive sprocket and drive chain willmove away from the hole in the engine rear cover and the motor cannot be reinstalled into these two items.
You may have a bad starter solenoid switch. Trace the hot wire back to this switch. It's the first thing you should see that is connected to this wire from the starter. Good luck.

Yes the starter can be removed without pulling the motor. The chain as previously described will fall if the bike is moved once the starter is out. I would suggest to replace the solenoid first, before you pull the starter. If replacing the solenoid doesn't work, chances are you would have needed a new one anyway because it is a hot draw to the starter and will probably be close to cooked. Rebuild the starter, re-install and you will be fine. (see 82 goldwing starter on this forum)
