Honda Rebel 250 Stalling

Trying to figure out why my Honda 2004 Rebel 250 keeps stalling. It will stall when rolling out from a stopped position and while giving it a lot of throttle on the when I am already moving 40mph+. It will also stall if I hold the clutch and lay off the throttle for instance coming down a steep hill. It seems that when I roll on the throttle it doesn't have as much pickup as usual. This bike is only a year old and have about 1000 miles on it. Any suggestions??

as a new engine breaks in it may need to be readjusted. 1 year an 1k miles it should still be under warranty.

So far I open adjusted the idle this and found this wasn't the problem.
Next I opened up the petcock and found that there is no fuel screen inside so I have found that I probably need to clean the the carbuerator. Anyone know where I can find a good service manual for a 2004 honda rebel CMX250. All I have found so is a 1978-2003 manual and I am not sure if this if they have changed anything on the 2004. Anyone have any advise?

Clymer doesn't make a manual for the 250 past '03, the 04-06 models are virtually identical.

You can get the Honda manual for about $36

what have you done to the bike, aftermarket wise? put pipes on, ect? if you did and didnt re-jet that could be a problem.

Check the air filter( I found walnuts packed in my R1's and its under the tank and never sits out over night! plus I found a huge bug in my xr50's, same scenerior)

hows the plugs?

how long has it sat unriden or started?

give me some details and may beable to help

Question 1986 Honda Rebel carberator clean

I'm new to this forum, but I need to remove the carberator cap on my bike to clean it with spray carb cleaner. I can't find where the screws are to remove the cap. Anyone know where I can get a picture to work with? thanks

Have you looked at your spark plug lately? If it has carbon build up on it or if the gap is wrong, you will run into all sorts of running problems. I always start with the simple things first and then work my way back.

Thanks for the info. I was in a bike shop getting the things I need for a tune up and when I asked the guy what I needed, he told me I didn't need a plug...I assumed there either wasn't one or that it wasn't accessible to change. Obviously this is the first time I'm trying to do this myself. Is there a plug to be replaced?
Thanks again

Sounds like the fuel filter (screen) is clogged.

This is usually located at the main/reserve/off fuel selector. On seldom used machines, I also cut the gas line from there and add an in-line fuel filter. These are also available at the same cycle shop. They are around a buck apiece, so I keep a few on-hand.

Symptoms of fuel starvation are as you describe - runs fine until you hit the throttle hard - then it slowly dies off and loses power.

It may also be your gas tank breather hose. If your gas tank can't breathe, it will form a vacuum as you use gas and will suddenly stall until you pop the top off the tank - then it'll run fine.

Now, if you have no power consistently between 1/2 to full throttle, it may be a blockage of your main jet. This is the big flat-screw with the hole in the middle of the bottom of your carb if you pop the bottom cover off. I've had brown gunk get in there over the winter if I didn't dump the carb bowl.
