club car speed help
I purchased a 96 club car and it seems like it's not too snappy on take off, and it goes about 14 mph. Are there any quick fixes to get it to around 20mph. I was told that messing with the governor could blow it up by kicking the RPM's too high so I left that alone. Any other way to pick up some speed??

Try driving the cart with the seat off so you or a friend can look at the drive belt. You want to see if the belt can move through it's full range on the drive & driven pulleys.
A lift kit and larger diameter wheels will make the cart go faster without doing anything to the engine.
You can also change the gear ratio in the rear end.

jack stands?
cani jack it up and watch the belt? how far should it ride up on the pulley? I ran my finger up and down the pulley and it feels smooth, but i can feel a slight dip, is this normal?

What is the general conditon of your cart? Is it pretty good or has it obviously had a hard life?
The belt should ride almost all the way up on your drive clutch (the one on the engine). There are some weights & bushings in the front clutch that can wear or break. Also make sure that the driven clutch (the back one) will allow the belt to get down almost to the bottom. A worn drive belt can also keep you from getting top speed.
Slight imperfections in the faces of your clutches are normal but a real groove or "dip" could show that the belt rides up to a point and then stops, causing it to wear in one spot.
Have you actually measured the speed of your cart? It is possible that your cart is already doing what it was designed to.

I purchased last fall and it was supposedly rebuilt in 2000 when a body kit was installed. It runs like a champ, but always needs choked after a day or two of sitting. You are correct it may be topped out per design, but it seems slower than even a golf course cart, definitely getting lapped in the neighborhood!! I will check it out, but I don't think 20 mph is out of the question or am I crazy??

I've got a Yamaha but here is what I found on the web:
You should get 12-15 with the govenor and rev limiter intact. If you remove/disconnect the govenor you should get about 19 mph before the engines rev limiter kicks in at about 3'800 rpm's.

i also have a yamaha and the clutch went out on it this weekend
where on the internet can i find parts to rebuild this clutch?
i took the cover off and found that the three little rollers that the arms ride on have flat spots on them. what happened was one of the arms went past the roller and got stuck not letting the clutch spead back out so that i had no low end . i have searched and havent found anything but replacement clutches and no parts to rebuild the clutch. does anyone no what parts i should replace when and if i can find them? i know the rollers but what about the arms or is there bushings or anything?

What model and year cart do you have? I just did a quick search online and parts are available for both the drive and driven clutch for Yamahas (depending on year).

it is a 97
i went to the dealer in town and found parts but now i cant get the clutch apart
i tried to pull the outer piece where the rollers are and the whole clutch came off it seems to be on there pretty tight i have heated it and everything but no go seriously thinking about buying a whole clutch

Are you working on the drive or driven? The drive clutch is mounted on the engine while the driven is on the rear differential.
