'75 FXE starter problem

My wife rides the old shovelhead now-a-days but sometimes it doesn't start with the push button, I put the ol' kicker back on it for her. I can jump start it through the relay under the battery box, but I think that it might be a problem in the wiring from the button on the front brake control unit. Has anyone expearenced this and does anyone have a remedy?

Thanx Big Ed

Hi, There should be a terminal on the relay that is hot when you push the starter button. Unhook that wire off of the relay and run a wire to that terminal from your battery to make sure the relay is working. If the relay works then the problem is one of three things.
No power getting to the push button switch {Bad connection or bad wire}
No power coming out of the switch {Bad Switch}
Power coming out of the switch but not getting to the relay. {Bad wire or bad connection}

Best regards, Jeff Z.

Thumbs up '75 Fxe

Thanx Jeff,
I found a losse pin connection behind the headlight. I pulled the light out the trace the wiring and it led to a gray plug with several pins, one of which was from the starter button. The pin connector was loose in the plug. I made the repair and my Baby doll is happy again..

Thanx again
