GX160 question??

Hi. I have a GX160 on the bench, removed it from a Rokon because it will not idle. I took the valve cover off to check the valve clearance and noticed something peculiar, when I rotate the crank in the running direction, the exhaust valve opens slightly during the compression stroke. Tell me it's not designed to do that.

Thanks, Dan

If it opens and stays open during compression, it's not designed to do that. No internal combustion engine is designed to do that.

I believe that is the Honda engine with problems that showed up on another forum here. The idle was messed up and it walked across the floor by itself.

By the end of the thread it was decided the cams in those engines were defective and wearing prematurely. Replacing the cam fixed everything.

Hope this helps,

Bob
