Harley oil change

I am a complete idiot regarding motorcycles. Need info on servicing one. This is a custom with a 85 ?? shovel head. What kind of oil? what level to maintain in oil tank? What about chain lube? Any help would be appreciated. RW

With your background you surprise me asking this, however,,,
The shovel (1966-1985) late model you could probably use a 20/50, I prefer a staight 50 Torco brand but I have an early shovel. Depending on your area and summer temps, folks in the deserts will run a 70 weight and it thins like water at that. I'd stick with something designed for air cooled motors too.
Also go and pick up a HD service manual. Basic bike basic mechanics, you should have no problems

Harley oil change

Spat:

I have fixed about everything including planes and wooden legs but never fooled with bikes. One thing I have learned in so doing is not to be afraid to say "I don't know" Thanks for the reply and web site. RW
