general motorcycle repairs

I have question about raising a motorcycle off the ground for repairs. I have to do some work on the exhaust and front tire work on my 84 Yamaha 650 xj650. Since i do not have one of those floor jacksdoes does anyone have any other suggestions.

depends what the bottom of the bike is like.

Where I had parallel rails and enough room, I have used a chunk of a tree (flat ends top and bottom) to set it on. Chunks of railroad ties provide the same setting.

The only problem is if this is a heavy bike, you need a bubba buddy to lift the thing up.

Yep, sounds like it's time you invest in a bike jack!
I'm fortunate with my bike cause it has a center stand. If your's doesn't there's only two alternatives:
1. Buy a jack
2. Get a hoist

Sorry there isn't better news.
