If I don't have a manual I just test for continuity betwen the 3 stator wires. They should all have continuity and close to the same resistance and none should be shorted to ground.

try this, hope may help you troubleshoot
the root cause either stator, rectifier, battery or wiring may have shorted/opened circuit
