125cc Yamaha breeze starting problems
its a 2003 model. the problem started when i changed the oil in it. i put the wrong oil in it and when i went riding that day, it bogged down really bad so i pulled over, let it cool down and tried to make it home. on the way it died. didnt make any sounds or noises, or smoke. just died. and hasnt started since. any ideas???

i believe, but not 100% sure, i put a thinner oil in it than i was supposed to. i really dont rememeber.
i do know that when i got it pulled home, the oil stick was very hot, and the oil smelt burnt. the engine is not sealed up, bc it does try to start. i took it to a guy i know and he said the compression was low.

It's difficult to say what you have. Normally you have recommended oils for a variety of reasons, however the primary purpose of oil is to lubricate. A basic oil will cover a lot of lubrication needs and although you may have put the wrong viscosity of oil in the engine if the engine burned up or lost its compression because of it, whatever you put in it must have been way out of specs.
With the loss of compression you'll need new rings for sure, possibly a new piston, and in worse case a new cylinder or at least a reworking of what you have to get you going again.

Sure, you can rent/borrow a compression tester from an auto parts store. If your compression is over 100 psi you are OK with the cylinders/piston/rings.
Did the fella that told you there was a compression problem check it or was that an informal diagnosis of the problem?
Price - worse case would likely be over $200.00 for parts. If just the rings were bad around $45.00.

yeah the guy that checked it works on them, and he checked it with a compression tester.

I had an 03 Yamaha Breeze, I had problems like you are describing also. Before tearing into the cylinder and replacing rings, keep in mind that your valves could be stuck open. The best way to find out is take it to a shop and have them hook up an air fitting where the spark plug goes. When you apply air, you can tell if you have a ring or a valve problems simply by listening for where the air will exit...it will come out of the air box or the exhaust. One means you have valve issues, the other means you have bad rings needing replaced. Hope this help, Later
