2004 yamaha bear tracker won't stay running

[OK..I have a 2004 yamaha bear tracker that won't stay running,if it does start it will run a few seconds and dies and it does back fire once in awhile. It will start when you use the start button and then it wants to die but if you keep your finger on the start button it will stay running,i think it is something electrical but not sure what electronic part should buy, don't want to have to buy each electrical part to figure this out,i actuallt have (2) yamaha bear tracker doing the exact same thing, has anybody had this problem of keeping it running as long as you keep start button pushed in???

If you have to keep the starter depressed to keep it running I'd have to say that it does not run. You mention that it sometimes start and will run a short while and that it backfires. When in doubt I almost always start with the carburetor. Have you removed, disassembled, cleaned and inspected the carb? Have you checked the ignition system to insure that you are getting a good spark at the spark plug?
