1998 suzuki lt 160 not starting

Hello all. I recently bought a 1998 suzuki lt160. Quad is not starting with the push button. I have brand new battery, spark plug, fresh oil and gas. When I press the start button it sounds like its trying to start but never does. I can push the quad into gear by setting it to neutural and then popping it inot 2nd gear. It starts that way fine, but not with the puch button. One wierd thing is that once I have been riding around for a few mintues and turn the quad off it will start again by pressing the start button and will do so until it cools down. What are some possible solutions here.
Thanks,
Chuck

Hello,
To me it sounds almost like a fuel problem. Your needing the RPM of the "push start" ( slipping into gear) method to pull the fuel up..I wonder if your carburetor needs to be cleaned or a kit put in it.? Fuel filter maybe ?...I hope this helps!
Please keep us posted of your progress this is interesting.

Verify that you have good spark. At that point it becomes a fueling issue seeing as the timing is unlikely to have been knocked askew.

How long was the carb stored for?
