Charging a 14 volt battery

Hi,

I borrowed a friend's Suzuki Intruder and drained the battery by mistake so I want to replace it. I have a 12 volt trickle charger but this bike takes a 14 volt battery. Will this charger be able to fully charge this battery?

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't the bike charge the battery? If you're buying a new one, you shouldn't have to charge it.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike.

I would suspect that the bike does charge it, but the person in the auto parts store suggested it be charged before it's installed because of sitting on the shelf for however long (nope, I didn't ask how long it sat there).

I think that you are referring to a 14 amp hour, nominal 12 volt battery. You can try to boost it enough to start and then let the bike bring it on up. If it died internally when discharged you will need a new one. Probably available at Wally World or Sears plus any bike shop. I like dry charged. For my scoot I have a Yuasa battery. Not cheap but mine has had a good, long life.

Thanks Goldstar, I'll try it. I was concerned that it would either charge too low or hurt the battery.

I agree with Goldstar....never saw a 14V battery in a bike. I couldn't figure it out...glad he did.
