Surging Go Cart Engine

The Honda I have that's surging is a GX160 5.5 horse on a Go-Kart. I've completely taken the carb apart and cleaned it, even the ports in the nozzle. The carb is a Keihin and has no jet screw that I know of and I don't see a idle circuit either. It too will even out a little at half choke which indicates to me that it is running a little lean.

You might be surprised at how inexpensive a new carb is. In fact, if you order a kit it might well be a new carb.

While it is running spray/dribble some carb/brake parts cleaner behind the carb and along the mating surfaces, if the engine tempo changes you have an air leak which is creating your lean condition, the gaskets on the hondas I have worked on are a pain. Have a good one. Geo

It's usually just a clogged carburetor, but sometimes it's the gasket Geo mentioned or the black insulator behind the carb can be cracked and leak.
