Golf cart problem

My Yamaha golf cart starts great in neutral, but when I start it in drive in bounces dwon the road for 20 feet before kicking. It then kicks in and drives normally. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

I don't know the unit but why wouldn't you just start it in neutral ?

A year and model would be very helpful too.

Yamaha has been making carts since the late 70's in 2 stroke up to modern EFI models. Without knowing what you have we can't help. This page will help you find out what you have.

Also, golf carts do not have neutral. The transmission only has forward and reverse. All shifting is done when the engine is not turning. Starting the cart with the shift lever between gears can damage the transmission if the input shaft is turning when you drop it into gear.
