Dirt Bike Shock Pressure Check

I'm curious if there is a trick to checking the nitrogen pressure inside a shock without losing a significant amount of charge when doing so (thus requiring it to be re-charged). I found a no-loss gauge which appears to be pretty short, but some volume will inevitably be lost to the inside of the gauge upon opening up the schrader valve. For example, could I first connect the gauge to an air compressor set to a slightly lower-than-expected pressure so that when I open the schrader valve there is minimal nitrogen loss as things reach equilibrium?
