bbq gas line

I recently bought a bank owned home. There was a bbq island but the grill was removed. The sink and everything works but no bbq.
I purchased a drop in Natural Gas grill to install in the BBQ island. There is a natural gas line with a yellow shut off valve attached inside the island. I installed the BBQ and connected everything but there is not any gas. The valve is on. There is a fire pit close by to the bbq island. It has signs of usage but appears to be missing the fire ring so I can't test it.

Is it possible the bbq island had a propane line and the gas line inside of it was to connect the propane to the fire pit? Would the natural gas hose fit a propane line?

Both would be plumbed the same. If you don't have a "gas meter" outside, I would assume it was using propane. Gas stoves & propane stoves use different orifices.

Thanks.
Then I think it's a natural gas line. There must be a shut off or capped off somewhere. I can't find it.
Called the local gas company to see if they can figure it out.

Do you have a gas meter in your yard? If you just purchased the house, you will likely have to pay a deposit before they unlock the valve & turn it on.

If it was using propane some one may have taken the supply bottle.

Yes we have a gas meter. All the natural gas house appliances are working fine.
I was able to connect the the "hose" and it fit perfectly
so that makes me think it might be natural gas which is what I'm hoping for.

Thanks again
