Question Crankcase question

What kind of problem (sympton) would be caused from a crankcase that wasn't sealed properly. In other words, if it was leaking pressure or vacuum. I'm talking about engines on push mowers in the 3.5 - 5 hp range.

The crankcase is not supposed to be sealed. The PCV valve is supposed to vent the crankcase. What problems are you having?

What if the PCV valve mis-functioned. No particular problem.

Hello J A Boggan, the answer to "What kind of problem (sympton) would be caused from a crankcase that wasn't sealed properly. In other words, if it was leaking pressure or vacuum." is smoking. About the only way this could happen without serious oil loss from the base gasket area is a completely stopped up PVC valve and this seldom happens on engines this small. Now I too want to hear what symptoms this engine has?.....Mike
