Murray lawnmower question

I have a 1990 model Murray riding lawnmower. It is a 11 H.P., 38 inch cut. I was mowing today, and everything was going fine, then all of a sudden, the mower stopped. It has a 5 speed shift, and I put it in every gear, including reverse, and it will not move. The clutch was not stuck, so I am wondering if the transmission has went out. I have never had this to happen before, so I am baffled. Please respond and let me know something.

Hello dmitchelljr!

Most likely, if you look under the mower, you will find that the belt from the engine to the transaxle has either broken or jumped off a pulley. Replace it and you should be fine. Let us know what you find!

The drive belt was not broken, nor was it off any of the pulleys. The belt seemed to be in good shape. While running the mower, I looked underneath and the belt and pulleys were all turning. I could not find anything wrong.

Any other suggestions that might fix the problem?

Look and see if the axle [axles] are spinning inside the
wheel hub, you may have lost a key, especially if you have
had one of the rear wheels off recently.
Otherwise, if the input pulley is turning its shaft, and you
still go nowhere, you are looking at transmission removal
and teardown.

Problem solved!

The key on the outside of the wheel hub was gone. I replaced it, but that did not fix it. I then took the right back wheel off the mower and discovered that the key was missing that goes in the axle groove. I replaced this key and put the wheel back on. I fired the mower up, put it in gear, and took off.

Thanks Fish

Good call Fisher, The wheels must've been off for those keys to go missing.

Glad you got it going!
