High compression

I have come upon a problem concerning a 10 HP Tecumseh OHV engine. Compression is very high and it will not start on 12VDC. Frustrated, I hooked 24VDC to it. It started on the first revolution and ran great. I tried a new starter, same problem. After it ran for about 30 minutes, it started on 12VDC, but when cold it hits top dead center an stops. Help.

You need to adjust your valves. The job is fairly simple, but we need your engine's model numbers to tell you how to do it.
Don't keep trying to crank it or you will be buying a new
starter soon.
