Ignition switches

Ignition switches
Is there a book or some type of publication out there that goes into detail and shows schematic diagrams or wiring diagrams of the internal contacts on various ignition switches and whether they are open or closed at the three positions (off, on and start). Most all of the switches are very simular however there are differances. I have made my own drawings (with a ohmmeter) but this is tedious and time comsuming.

Hello: J A
For all applications the simply answer is no, to the best of my recollection.
3 common reasons come to mind quickly.
The switches are not made by the tactor or riding mower manufacturer.
The time spent by service mechanics is too costly to trouble shoot and repair the switches.
Replacing the switch, once determined to be the actual problem, iit becomes cost effective to simply replace it with a new part.
Therefore, the last sentence in your posted question is correct.
The task is both tedious and time consuming. To the shop and the machanic, time is money.
The other resident small engine service and repair professionals may offer additional suggestions, advice and help.

Most swithces are marked at each terminal with a letter that designates what wire is to be connected to it. Not all are like this though.

Ignition Switches and Testing Them
J A,
Do you have a FAX machine, or access to one ?? I can send you
a couple of pages of some good information on ID'ing the switch
and performing continuity tests on them to determine if they are
good or bad. E-mail me @ tekumcman626@msn.com with the FAX
number and I'll shoot 'em to you.
