I have a question about walk behind self-propelled lawn mowers. Which one is more practical for the average homeowner? The rear drive mower or the front drive mower? Thanks!!

Hello bwi1170. Welcome to our Small Engine forum.

Your question is valid but may be one that has to be answered as opinion and personal preference. Each design has it's own benefits and drawbacks.

Rear baggers with rear wheel drive get more traction since the weight of the bag and grass help supply it. The difference is the clutching to engage and disengage the drive wheels.

With the front wheel drive, tilling upwards the front end allows the wheels to spin freely while a turn is made. The bag and grass weight counter the traction but there is less need to engage and disengage the drive wheels.

Other differences may be noticeable on inclines and or slopes.

Once agin, in my opinion, the type of grass, the terrain and personal choice all are factors to consider.
