Exclamation Hey Tcumcman

Can electric start (12v using battery) be added to the 6hp OHV Power Sport motor? If so, can you tell me what parts I'd need? Thanks!

Also, can you take a look at my other post about lean pop and idle issues.

Well..I'm not Tman, but I'll answer. The 6hp tecumseh power sport engines are available with electric start. You will need a flywheel that is equipped with a ring gear. Check yours, it may have one since it came with a stator. Also, you will need a starter. I don't have any part #s to give you right now, but you can ask for a starter and flywheel for a model OHH60-71113. That should get you the parts you need. It will probably cost you nearly as much as a new engine though.

Moderators Note:

Hello Sal

I have changed your engine poping & idle issues question to a generalized question named "Engine Running Problem."

I do this often to broaden the scope of the subject which makes it easier for the web sites search feature to locate engine problems.

Many of our visitors & guests seeking answers to like or similar questions use this feature to quickly locate problem causes & solutions, etc.

The current advice you have received thus far on both topics is accurate and correct based on the information provided. Check with local dealers for the starter addition parts required and ask about installation instructions.

Regards & Good Luck. Tom_B.

Electric Start Add-On

Cheese has pretty well answered your question already. The
flywheel will MORE THAN LIKELY have to be added, however, that
it has an alternator as Cheese said, it may very well HAVE the
ring gear on the flywheel needed for engaging the elec. starter.
The block should already be drilled & tapped to bolt the starter
on. If the model and spec Cheese provided has electric start,
you can surely use those specs to acquire the parts you need.
A starter and flywheel will run you around $200 or so, I would
guess.
