Snowblower choke prob.

I have a MTD 5/22 snowblower with a Tecumseh engine, engine runs good at half choke but surges when I open the choke to full. Any help appreciated

Hello scamper!

I suggest removing the bowl screw and clean out the bowl, and the tiny holes in the sides of the bowl screw. This may be all it takes. Also...If you have an air/fuel adjustment screw on the carb, try backing it out 1/4 to 1/2 turn.

Let us know how it goes!

Thumbs up

Cheese, Choke problems cured, you were right on, (no carb adj. necessary.

Surging Engines

Scamper,

Is Cheese "The Man", or what ?? Just FYI....When an engine is
surging as yours was when the choke is opened, it indicates
that fuel is NOT GETTING supplied sufficient with the amount of
air that's mixing with it. That you had to partially close the choke
is "balancing" this mixture by "cutting off" some the air. I hope
all those viewing this format will realize this and be better able
to troubleshoot a problem of this sort in the future.
Generators, snowblowers....any equipment that's allowed to
"sit" for extended periods between uses are susceptible to this
problem occuring.
