12hp B&S

I have to replace the head gasket on a 12hp B & S, model 281707 type 0029. Anyone know where I can find the torque sequence for the head bolts? or if it is even critical?

Hello wormy!

the bolts should be torqued in a cross-type sequence, but I doubt that the factory reccomended way is the only way.

Heres how briggs says to do it:

3-7-6-1
2
5-8-4-9

the end where the 3-2-5 are is the end of the head with the valve reliefs in it. the other end is the curved end. This is when looking at the head from the side with the colling fins. Torque the bolts to 190 inch pounds.
