Kohler CVS15 Problem
I have a Kohler, 15CVS (15 hp, electric start) that refuses to stay running. The problem ass started when we experienced a particulary dry summer. While mowing the yard after running through much dust the motor began to run erratically. Now it will start and run for a brief period (2-5 seconds) then cut out and quit. I've checked the fuel pump and supply lines (good flow from the pump)....checked the air cleaner (installed new one immediately after first incident)... If you try to start it immediately after it cuts out it will crank but immediately quit. If you wait for 5 minutes and try it it runs for the 2-5 seconds then quits. It's almost as if the carburetor bowl is not filling properly and/or filling slowly. I pulled the carburetor and took a look at it. Float in the bowl seems ok, needle valve attached to float looks good too. I blew all the jets out and took a close look but can't seem to find any debri. I've checked the gas cap....vents are clear...someone help me out.....pleaseeeeeeeeee!

Hello cbruce41!
On the bottom of your carburetor, there should be a solenoid with a wire. This has to be removed to remove the bowl. Remove this solenoid and ground the case of it to the engine, connect the wires to the mower, and turn the key on. Does it make an audible "click"? Can you see the solenoid neelde move when it clicks? If not, clean the solenoid well with spray carburetor cleaner. Wear safety glasses when doing this! Let me know what you find, and if this works.
