Angry Lawn Tractor won't start

I have an MTD lawn tractor that is about 6 years old. This spring it won't start. It has been in the garage for the winter. I live in Memphis TN so it wasn't too cold. I have replaced the spark plug, cleaned the air filter, drained and replaced the gas. I removed the spark plug and insured that it was sparking by grounding it to the frame. It appears to be sparking normally. The engine turns over but it just won't start. When I removed the air filter I could see gas in the chamber. I thought that it might be flooded, so I let it sit for a while and tried again with no success. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Dacus!

Is the spark plug wet or damp looking? If it is dry, try pouring a small amount of gas into the spark plug hole and see if it starts and runs for a second or two then dies. If so, you need to clean the carb. If the plug is wet, look at the choke and make sure it is not stuck. (at the carb).
