Question smoking engine

I have a 14.5 horse OHV, brigg and stratton, mod.- 287707; type- 0224-01; code-960408zd. It runs good, seems to have good power. It does smoke a little when in heavy grass, but very little. My problem is occasionaly it will be alot of heavy smoke that will clear right up. I just changed the oil. Pretty sure it has the right amount of oil. What else could be the problem?

Hello deancj!

You could have too much oil in it, a blown head gasket, a bad crankcase breather, clogged or oil soaked air filter, engine wear, wrong weight oil, etc...

Check your air filter...is it soaked with oil? Change it if so. Is the oil SAE30, or something else? Is the oil level too high? Does the oil smell like gas?

Thanks Cheese
I put new rings in it. I cranked it this after noon. Ran it for a little while. So far it looks good.

Thanks Again
