Short Block or new

Short Block or new
I'll try to be brief. My 8hp Briggs has locked up on me. The flywheel will turn but with a lot of force behind it. I am going to assume that the inside has locked up. I can replace the engine for about $600. A short block will be about $350. Does the short block require any special tools. Will the parts pretty much just interchange with the old. My old engine is only 4 years old, is in a tiller, and doesn't have many hrs on it. I would like any thoughts/opinions.
Thank you.
Thank you.

To save the $250.00 I would get the short block. The only trick is adjusting the govenor and getting all the springs in the right place. There should be instructions so go for it.

Hello PhilG!
Before you do anything...shop around a bit. I don't know what model engine you have, but I sell new complete 8hp briggs horizontal engines for the same price you are talking about spending on a short block! You should be able to find a better price.
A short block is easy to swap with no special tools, just standard hand tools. All of your old parts should fit right on with no modifications.
