I am working on a 8hp briggs and stratton engine on a small riding mower. One of the valves stick every once and a while so how would I go about fixing this problem? Can I just clean them up and how would I go about doing this?

Hey racer, cleaning the valve guide and stem is the only way to go to assure that a dormant time won't produce another stuck valve. Remove the valve and run a pipe cleaner with some carb cleaner on it through the guide to clean. Clean the valve stem and put it back together. May as well do both of them while your in there and do check the clearance when finished. Removing the head and opening the valves so you can spray some PB Blaster around the valves where they go into the guides would be a quick fix. Tilt the engine back a bit and let it sit over night....Mike
