Valve Removal

3.5 briggs ( valve lapping)
Do you have to remove any of these motors just to lap the valves? I though you just remove the cover, depress the spring, remove the keeper to remove the valves. Was told different.

Think it is time for me to do my own work again with the info I get from this forum.

I think it had something to do with the fact that he had someone wanting to trade a 5 hp rider for this self-propelled mower. He told me on the phone that he thought he heard a slight knock in the mower. I told him before I let him have it for work done on the two mowers he had of mine, I wanted to hear it run. When I picked it up, for some reason he had the carb off. Maybe he was preparing to do a valve job . Anyway, he then told me the motor ran good. Man! The games people will play for so little. Oh well, I said I'd try him out and I did.

late update
A while back I got around to starting this mower. After putting the carb from another on it that running hot ( he was supposed to have fixed). The carb he sent back with it had parts missiing. I doubt it was the one that was on it. The self propelled ran good except for also running hot. Evidently, the carb was not cleaned out well enough. Need a shroud for it as the ones I have from other 3 hp's do not seem to work without a loud scrubbibg sound.
Just thought I would post this update to remind some to be careful who they let do work on their mowers ( anything else as far that goes).

Man...some people just don't cut it. Is this guy running a business? Sounds like one of the shops in my neighborhood!
