Reverse problems / lawn tractor

i have a 14.5 mtd lawn tractor. My problem is when I put it in reverse the engine starts to die out. I noticed that when i shift into reverse the shifter runs up against a piece of wire (when the shifter and wire meet it kills the engine, Just like a kill switch) any idea's as to how to adjust?

If it happens while you are mowing it is because mtd has a kill switch hooked up to kill the engine if you shift into reverse while the blades are turning. It's a safety issue.

Correct...it is a safety kill switch. It only kills the engine when the blades are on and the shifter is in reverse. Some people remove that plate to access the metal tab and just unplug it. Doing so will disable the safety feature, and may not be wise, depending on your circumstances.
