Angry Running speed problems

I am the proud owner of a Craftsman 5.5 self-propelled push mower. I bought it at a garage sale for $40.

It is a Tecumseh engine. I have replaced the float and needle in it and now instead of leaking fuel all over the place, it revs up and returns to normal speed on it's own. I have tried to adjust it but with no success. Can anyone help?

Mower Problems

YessBoss,

The throttle link that connects to the throttle shaft and
to the governor lever/arm....Make sure the link is in the
SAME hole it came out of. You can usually see where the
link has been will be somewhat egg-shaped. When the
engine revs up, the governor system will automatically
try and close the throttle & prevent the engine from
over-speeding. Sounds like you have a linkage/spring
or a possible governor adjustment problem ?? Why not
purchase a 740049 Tecumseh repair manual, which will
cover this subject....in detail.
