Toro 6.5hp Model 20016 will not stay running

Hello: Just got this yesterday, it is the high wheel, self propelled. Problem: Will not run when hot, about 3 to 5 minutes after starting. Tecumseh LEV 80-120 without choke and with primer bulb. Have checked linkage, fuel, oil and rubber lines (moved rubber gas line from next to engine, though it might be a vapor lock. no improvement).
Any help appreciated. Thank you

Toro 20016 LEV120

Eazyyy,

If the mower will start after priming and only runs for a
few seconds....indicates a "restriction" in the main fuel
jet (which is in the bowl nut), OR....you possibly have
water in your fuel. Remove bowl nut, look for the very
small orifice/hole in the upper tapered side of the nut.
Clean with a small piece of stiff wire, and replace. Try
priming and running again. If this doesn't help....try
NEW, FRESH fuel. Best of luck !! I own a 20017 with SAME
engine and have been VERY PLEASED thus far.

I would agree with what he said. Do that and let us know how it goes.

Hello eazyyy!

Welcome to the small engines forum!

Tcumcman has given you some good advice. One other less likely possibility could be that the gas tank vent is restricted. Try loosening the cap when it starts to die out and see if it picks back up again.

Let us know how it goes!

On that Toro that would not stay running.

I replaced bot the coil and the gas cap. I do not know which was the problem, but it works like a horse and drags me along behind it.

Thank all of you for your help.

Hi Emory!

I merged this thread into your old one, so that it would all be visible at one time.

Glad you got it going! I'm kinda wondering why I didn't mention a coil here. It was kinda obvious. Oh well...at least you got it !
