elec. lawn mower

My trusty B&D electric mower refused to start whirling
when I pullled on the lever, and then began smoking from the top of the housing. Something has seized up in there.
Do I look for a seized bearing somewhere?. I thought about
removing the blade and seeing if it'll spin then.
The blade turns stiffly when turned manually, with a clicking sound
B&D electric mower MM525.

If the motor smoked but still turns smoothly I would say that the brushes, armature or stator are gone.
The fact that there is a grinding leads me to believe that a mechanical fault caused the burn-out.
If you are into taking things apart you might check the gearbox first.
It is more than likely not worth repairing but I'll copy this thread over to small engines where the small engine experts reside.
They likely see these units in their travels and might have some further insight.
