oil breakdown

I don't know if I have asked this before. I did a search and didn't find anything. Does 2 cycle oil get old in the can and breakdown when it has never been opened?

I got several cans from a fella that had belonged to his father and had been in the shop for I don't know how long. Tried some of it in a chainsaw and the saw seemed to run hot. I quit using it thinking the oil was so old it may have broken down.

Were they sealed? If not, I wouldn't use them. Besides, today's oil is better than something from 20 years ago that's been collecting dust on a shelf.

Were they sealed

They are the small cans and were never open. I was just curious since the saw seemed to run hot and the color of the oil seemed a little different, kind of greenish. Heheh, that stuff is too cheap to risk it. Out it goes.
