400cc Briggs

I'm aquiring a 400cc B+S engine from a friend,needs a new carb. He doesn't use the mower anymore,so he's giving it up. I want to know how much hp a 400cc engine is. I know that it's different than dirtbikes and atvs,cause that'd be like 20+ horse if it was on one of them. Anybody know?

Hello needles, 400cc is an eleven HP engine. Hope you don't need an updraft carb for a horizontal shaft because they are high new and scarce in the used end of things. You should be able to get a good used one for a vertical engine for a decent price....Mike
