mtd snow blower (model 92/8) with tecumseh HM80

I have rebuilt the carb and am having trouble adjusting the idle, etc. I can get the engine running with the choke fully on, however with the rpm's high, flames will come through the exhaust and the muffler is red hot. When the choke is turned off the engine quits.
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello HD1991!

Sounds like you need to clean the carburetor. Adjustments will change the way the engine runs, but unless someone has changed them, it's not the reason it's running badly.

Thanks for the info Teminator 20. I tried adjusting the main and got the engine to stay running. After adjusting the governor the engine ran like a top.
Thanks for the help.

Adjusting the governor got it running? Are you sure it was the governor? I think you still have a problem, but hey, if it's running good....
