chainsaw chain

I have a 20" Homelite, gas chainsaw... the
chain tightness was set according to manual, however after 5-10 min. of use the chain becomes super tight on the bar. At this point the motor still revs but chain on bar will not rotate !

I have undone the the bolts holding the bar to loosen the chain & re-adjusted bar tension ... and same thing happens.
Any ideas/suggestions before it goes to the shop?
Thx. in advance.

Hello 365Patrick!

Is the oil reservoir full? Is the chain getting oil (look wet, sling oil off of it when running)? Does the chain become more relaxed when it cools down?

When you adjust it, how tight is it?

Sorry about not getting back to sooner Cheese!!

Have found the problem!!! It was the chain 'safety brake' that went kaput !! After disarming it..the saw ran great..no stopages ie chain tightening etc.

Thx again for your initial response to my problem...
