Best snowblower for my 70 year old mom?
My mom is very energetic & independent. She just gave up the shovel this year. If I lived close, I would shovel her snow but am not.
Whats the best "light wieght" snow blower I could get for her? Money is not a issue.
Does anyone make a electric start which starts from 110 volt home power?
Thanks
Mike

Hello Mike!
Many snowblowers are made to start with 110 volts from a household electrical outlet. I have no snowblower expertise, but Ariens snowblowers seem to be popular. I'm sure someone here with some experiences with snowblowers will answer with more detail.

Hi Giant, my mother only has use of one of her arms due to a car accident, what she uses and it works great, im buying one also is a Toro Power Shovel. It is electric like a lawn trimmer and is about 1 ft wide and inside the shovel area is a mini snowblower of types and it throws snow about 15-20 ft. The thing works awesome addmittedly i thought it was going to be a peice fo crap at first but the thing works excellent. And only weighs asbout 10-11 pounds? Anyways you just push it along and it works wonderful. I have included a link below for it. This thing really does clear our the snow and is definately worth every dollar.

Also check out there electric line of blowers, simply because they make an excellent line fo electrics, and the only thing is an extension cord no messing with gas or oil, which is much more convenient. Dont have to worry about it not starting on her etc.

re: best snowthrower for mom
Hello Mike:
My next door neighbor and his wife are in their 70's but energetic.
He has a small Toro he bought last season and I will say I'm impressed with how it performs.
I have a 5 HP Ariens I use for my sidewalks and paths to the birdfeeders but that little Toro does a great job and is very light.
It has a 2 cycle 3.25 HP Techumseh engine and he tells me the only time he had to use the electric start was at the first snow.
Do keep in mind he has an insulated and heated garage.
Anyway, I am definitely thinking of buying one of these for the plowing accounts I have who want sidewalk clearing as well.
I've seen the power shovels and was not impressed for the amount of snow we get her in upstate NY, but you never mentioned where she lives.
I'd suggest you take her to a retailer and let her try the weight and push one around to see if she can handle it. If she's anything like my 81 yr old Mom she will be able to handle it.
Here's the link for the model of which I spoke:

re: 110 electric start???
Hello Mike:
The unit in question definitely has a 110 V AC electric start.
It must be plugged in and starts in a second, then cord must be removed.
I am not aware of ANY snowblowers under 8 to 10 HP with an onboard battery and integrated electric start. I did buy one ot the Toros today for my Mom and we are having some wet slushy snow. Darn thing is better at clearing it than my larger blowers.
She's 81 but fit and although I plow her driveway and will do anything for her she likes to clear some of it herself
Still think you should take your Mom to a store and see if she is confortable with the weight.
Good luck and happy shopping!
