to carb and it would start but stop as soon as gas use up.
intend instaling carb kit.
any suggestions? anyone know a rule of thumb for setting
idle mixture screw and main adj screw or anything else
i should know befor i try to replace these screws, intend
replacing float as well. need help
thanks in advance

Hello Shortie!

You probably will do just fine if you remove the float bowl and clean it out, and clean out the tiny holes in the bolt that holds the bowl on. You might not have to replace anything...check it and see.

Clean your carberator really well. You should be able to get it running after that. Make sure you are getting spark as well.

Smile Tecumseh 10hp Snowblower

I did the carb kit thing and the snowblower wouldn't start.
adjusted the bottom screw at the same time trying to start
it with electric starter, low and behold, it started and runs well
when I shut if off a slight blue flame came out of the muffler.
thanks for your confidence cheese and terminator20.
i'm usually good as a diy but this is the first time i tried a carb.
i was always scared of the settings and adjustments.
Any with the motor purring I tried to shift from reverse to forward
no go., does this mean my transmission is siezed. I disconnected
the linkage and tried to shift gears by hand near the back of the engine, no go.
WHAT do I do guys. Is there a transmission fluid filling or testing
valve/nut i can get at or add fluid or what . appreciate any help
as i'm one proud diy after it starting when i did the carb cleaning,
but still would like to go forward with this snowblower

Glad you got it going!

Have you checked your drive belt? Make sure it's on...sounds like it is either off, or not engaging.

I merged this thread with your old one to help us keep all info in one place for easier reading/following the progress of the project.

Sorry I have no idea what compnents make up a snowblower transmission. I live too far south for snowblowers. Try lubricating the areas that move when shifting. Try rotaing the transmission input shaft as you put pressure on the shifter and see if it will allow a shift.

Question snowblower-forward gears

My craftsman 10 hp dual stage snow blower mod
c950-52530-6 is still giving me trouble. It is in reverse
gear and I can't get it to shift to forward gears. Any other
suggestions in getting this machine to go forward.

If your drive system has a rubber disc that runs against a aluminum plate, the slide system is rusted. Lubricate all the shafts in the drive and work the disc back and forth with a pry bar of some sort. Be sure the rubber wheel is moving up off the plate when you try to shift. Once you break it free and lube under where it was stuck it should be fine.
Hope this works for you!

10 hp snowblower forward gears

let it snow, let it snow, shorti's snow blower can now
go forward and backwards. jim you were right on the money
the clutch was seized to the hex shaft like you said, i use
wd40 into the clutch and around the shaft and use bar and
hammer to loosen it and presto the clutch just slid along
the hex shaft. I connected the linkage back up and it works
fine, now to get everyting back to together.
note: i certainly will do the proper maintenance when i put
it away after this winter. Thanks again Jim and Cheese
your advice did the trick.

Thanks Cheese! I'm located in Connecticut so I've seen a snowblower or two in my time. Unlike your location we get a lot of snow here.

recoil starter cord

got it working ok, instaling a new starter cord that is.
The first time I tried it I didn't know to wind up the recoil spring
then feed the new cord in. I did wind it up but not enough so
when I tried to start it the cord only half recoiled. Then cheese,
I remembered you saying feed the cord in and let it rewind, so i wound it up all the way, fed the cord in, knoted it like you said
and put it back on the blower and presto she started off first
shot. This cord was broken since last year, didn't believe it was
that easy to replace. Thanks again Cheese and to jlm I'm just
waiting for the snow to come(if you build it (snowblower) they (flakes) will come,
