I rebuilt a 5HP Briggs & Stratton engine a couple of years ago on my riding lawn mower. The B&S manual said something about just running the engine under no load for about 30 minutes and then under a light load for another 30 minutes and consider the break in period done. I used a simular method on my chevy pickup when I rebuilt that engine, but just extended the period of light load a while longer. I've been using both now for about 2 years with no problems.
